(http://seasonedmixedblend.blogspot.com/) ...Many holidays ...many seasons ...both seasoned with a little of this & a little of that??
(https://reactionemotionfeelingsmoodsjudgment.blogspot.com/) ...Does emotion define us??
I'd say the majority of people ...or if not, at least an uncomfortably large number of people have a set narrative in their head. We are in the age of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram ...to only name a few of the ways we participate through social media, with brevity of Hashtags and Memes.
Yes, there is a place for brevity ...a simple 'thank you' at a drive-thru can mean so much, and a few words go well with a hug at a funeral. But, let's not minimize every other aspect of life. Many people would rather defend their emotion and narrative ...than invest any of their precious time on any real thinking. It seems like a waste of time for some people ...when they feel the idea has already been adequately formulated. Some people would say, "Let's just move on!"
And some people would just like to leave it at that ...by saying, "Some people ...". We seem to like stereotypes more than we'd like to admit, it seems.
But, before I get an anticipated blowback from what I may seem to be saying before I say it, let me give an example first ...and the few of you who are still with me, may actually understand what I am in truth saying.
Here is the story:
A women around my age (give or take ten years ...it's not considered polite to guess a woman's age) was arrested. She appeared rather intelligent, and she had some degree of confidence that justice would eventually be done ...so, she could have told the police that the charges would not stick.
I have to back up a bit. Her neighbor had begun selling things from his home. Traffic increased so much that it congested the street they lived on. Out of convenience, people began to drive through this woman's yard, as it appeared to remedy the situation and be easier for everyone ...except the woman. She'd put up signs, but they ignored them. She then parked her own car on her own property ...which hindered people from taking the route they'd previously been accustomed to. Those customers of her neighbor, or perhaps her neighbor who felt she was preventing customers from coming ...called the police.
When the police showed up, she was out there. The police didn't seem interested in her story (or her rights) ...they just asked her to move. Yet, she stood her ground as she tried to explain her rights. One of the officers remained in the car, and seemed to think if he slowly drove forward ...that she would move. But, she did not.
And the police car minimally made contact with her, enough that she either willingly or unintentionally fell down.
Now, do you think the police wrote up the report this way??
Furthermore, it seems that the woman had an excellent case ...being on her own property, and having been treated in this fashion by the police. So, what do you think they did??
The police sent the woman for evaluation of a mental illness. If she had been arrested, she would not only be assured of a quick release from their custody, she would also have a believable case against the police's action. But, that would not necessarily be the case if she was evaluated with a mental condition.
The woman was taken to a mental health facility for evaluation ...and I was asked to sit in (as is professional not to enter into conference alone). I can't remember whether it was a psychologist or psychiatrist ...as I was never too impressed with titles. The professional posited that she had a mental health problem. She denied it.
His reason for her being evaluated as mentally ill was that she was not acting normal, "Look at you, we are just talking ...and you are crying."
The woman responded, "I'm going through menopause ...if you dropped your pencil, I would cry!!"
(As if getting arrested and hauled off for evaluation of a mental illness isn't reason enough to cry. I smiled inside by the way she schooled that professional.)
Her husband must have gotten her out quickly, as she was not there after my day off.
Now, I'm not saying whether this is a true story, or not. So, don't try to say I've breached confidentiality by telling this story ...as I've not given any personal names nor any names of any facilities. If anyone tries to claim I've breached confidentiality, then names would have to be given ...and the person accusing would be the one guilty of the breach. So, I've got you there.
Now, my point is ...this does not make police bad. Larry Nassar being convicted of sexual abuse ...does not mean that all Doctors are bad. In both cases, I believe the overwhelming majority of these professionals are very good, and we need them. If we don't take this attitude ...then how can we go through each day?? We have to trust somebody. Yet, I know there are on occasion very hopeless situations ...and it doesn't seem we can trust others. It would be a natural reaction to get angry when huge injustices are everyday occurrences. Yet, if we react to an injustice by becoming just as wrong as those who are mistreating us ...that does not usually have a good outcome either.
I don't wish bad for anyone, but justice will be meted out when we meet God in the afterlife ...which is by far the majority of our life (no comparison). Who do we trust?? Trust He who has sacrificed for our sins ...Jesus.
I believe in freedom of speech ...but, I believe there should be limits. I also know people have sued others for defamation of character ...on the grounds that it has caused harm. Gossip causes harm. How much more so should a person be held accountable for that which could cause physical harm??
I believe a person should be arrested for loose statements made in reference to the promotion of physical harm. Now, August 2019 ...a person has been arrested for positing a violent statement against Congresswoman Cortez. I agree with having the person arrested. Yet, Twitter permitted hashtag "#MassacreMitch". And outside his own home they protested, and "stab the ---" went viral on Twitter.
Locally, some peaceful protesters were arrested for passing out roses inside an abortion clinic ...because they were trespassing. Inconsistent?? Yes, but that is what injustice usually is ...inconsistency.
Yes, we need more fairness, justice, and consistency. For those who don't find it here ...look to Jesus. Don't leave this life, preparing for eternity, with an attitude that is not compatible with Heaven. First Peter 3:9, states, "Do not repay evil with evil, or insult with insult ..." Not always easy to do ...but we'd do better to all make that at least a goal. Don't let yourself be driven in the wrong direction.
